Geoscience BC is exploring the potential for natural hydrogen and helium in British Columbia, with interest growing in natural hydrogen exploration due to its presence alongside natural gas pools. Exploratory work is planned in Ontario and potentially in BC, where geological conditions could foster hydrogen production. The presence of helium alongside hydrogen offers additional value, given its high demand in tech applications. However, capturing commercially viable quantities of hydrogen poses challenges, and even global natural hydrogen production would only meet a fraction of future demand.
