The American Physical Society (APS) recommend that the federal government continues to maintain responsibility for the unclaimed helium currently in the Federal Helium Reserve and retain it for use in federally supported research. They also suggest that if the sale of the Reserve continues, a condition of sale should be implemented that requires the purchaser to maintain an in-kind helium program for federal research grantees.
