Air Products (AP) stated that the helium shortage ended some time in late 2023 and Messer also agreed that there does not appear to be a shortage in the global market. AP had said in the past “the massive capacity, direct pipeline connections to major refineries and historically dominant role means that ripples in its operation, particularly of this system, create massive waves in the U.S. and global market.” It said that this is not true now given there is no helium shortage. AP replied in response to a question if a two-year shutdown would be concerning to the market that it is not sure that is true today. A midterm outage today would not have an impact on the global supply: If all the other plants around the world are operational, a 90-day shutdown would not cause a problem.
