An article by NWI news (by The Times) claims that natural hydrogen could prevent 80 gigatons (Gt) of cumulative carbon-dioxide emissions by 2050. As the world seeks alternatives to fossil fuels to combat climate change, natural hydrogen emerges as a promising solution. It offers a near-zero carbon footprint and is continuous availability. An unpublished US Geological Survey study estimates up to 5 trillion tons of hydrogen reserves globally, potentially satisfying demand for centuries. Despite challenges in technology, infrastructure, and regulation, the US government has pledged US$20mm towards 16 research and development projects paving the way to revolutionise the energy sector.
